Chennai, Feb 10 (NationPress) The Government Railway Police (GRP) have escalated their patrolling efforts and bolstered security protocols at all major railway stations throughout Tamil Nadu in light of the horrific attack on a pregnant woman, who was forcefully pushed off the ladies’ compartment of a moving train close to Katpadi Junction at Jolarpet during an attempted sexual assault.

In response to this alarming incident, officials from the Tamil Nadu Railway Police have been conducting inquiries at railway stations and actively engaging with passengers regarding the newly implemented security measures.

A senior representative from the Chennai GRP informed IANS that there has been a significant increase in patrolling on the platforms at crucial stations. He noted that police teams are now regularly checking ladies’ compartments of express trains.

Furthermore, Facial Recognition Systems (FRS) will be set up at railway stations to monitor habitual offenders. Stations that previously lacked sufficient CCTV coverage will receive new camera installations as part of the security upgrade.

Another officer from the Government Railway Police reassured that women traveling alone can request police assistance if they feel threatened during their journey. The officer stressed that police personnel would respond promptly to any distress calls.

On February 7, a woman who was four months pregnant, suffered serious injuries after being allegedly sexually assaulted and pushed from a moving train in Tamil Nadu. The survivor, who is employed at an apparel company in Coimbatore, was on her way to Chittoor and was alone in the ladies’ compartment.

According to her account, the assailant boarded the ladies’ compartment at Jolarpettai after other female passengers had exited. The perpetrator, identified as a repeat offender Hemanthraj (31), attacked her and pushed her off the train.

He was apprehended by the Government Railway Police in Jolarpet on February 9. The victim, who was in her second trimester, sustained fractures in her hand and leg and required at least 20 stitches on her head.

Subsequently, she was moved to the orthopedics intensive care unit (ICU) of a government hospital on February 8 for ongoing observation.

During a routine scan, medical professionals discovered that the baby's heartbeat had ceased. Doctors suggested that the trauma from being pushed off the train may have led to this devastating loss.
