New Delhi, June 20 (NationPress) Following the devastating Air India Flight AI-171 incident in Ahmedabad on June 12, two ex-senior cabin crew members have reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming they were unjustly dismissed last year after sounding alarms regarding serious technical problems with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
The correspondence asserted that, "the aforementioned catastrophe was inevitable as our multiple statements and concerns regarding the technical issues and defects in the aircraft – (Dreamliner Aircraft B787/8 Series), were systematically ignored, disregarded, or not taken seriously for reasons only understood by the management of Air India Ltd (AI) and the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)...."
The crew contended that the crash was “inevitable,” highlighting that their continuous alerts about aircraft flaws—particularly an incident in 2024 involving Dreamliner VT-ANQ—were overlooked by Air India and the DGCA.
According to the letter, the slide raft deployed on the door during landing in London without any manual action, a claim that was initially corroborated by the pilot and crew.
However, the signatories claimed they were subsequently coerced into altering their statements, and when they refused, they faced termination without a thorough investigation.
"We are puzzled as to why an informal dialogue was pursued instead of a comprehensive investigation conducted by the DGCA, the Regulatory Authority, when such a serious incident concerning passenger and crew safety was reported," it stated.
Describing it as their "final hope," the crew appeals for the Prime Minister’s intervention to reinstate them and scrutinize the safety record of the Dreamliner.
Just a day after this letter was sent, Air India informed IANS that the cabin crew members were dismissed for their "misconduct and behavior and for continuing to provide inaccurate information during the investigation process."
“The investigation was initiated following the activation of an emergency slide while opening the aircraft door after landing,” the airline stated.
This situation reignites tensions within the airline and raises concerns regarding air travel safety.
