Jaipur, Aug 11 (NationPress) A 20-year-old B.Sc. Agriculture first-year student tragically took his own life in Kota on Sunday, shortly after returning from his village where he celebrated Raksha Bandhan.
The victim, identified as Abhishek Meena, was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan in his rented room located in the Rangbari area of Kota, as reported by police on Monday.
His cousin, Satish Meena, mentioned that Abhishek was from Rampuriya Bhagatan village in the Baran district. He had been residing in Kota for the past five years and was in a rented accommodation.
On Saturday, Abhishek had traveled to his village for the Rakhi celebration with his family. He returned to Kota around 10-11 a.m. on Sunday. Satish noted that Abhishek was facing the prospect of vacating his rented room soon. Around 3 p.m., the landlord knocked on his door, only to find it locked from the inside. After receiving no response, he looked through the window and discovered Abhishek hanging.
The landlord promptly contacted the police and family members. Authorities and relatives hurried to the scene. To gain access, they had to break the window glass. Abhishek was subsequently brought down and taken to New Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Satish recalled that Abhishek's father, a farmer, had encouraged him to concentrate on his studies when he arrived home late on Saturday night.
As the sole son in the family, Satish expressed confusion about Abhishek's decision, stating, “We don’t know why he took this step.”
ASI Ravindra Singh from the Mahavir Nagar police station confirmed the incident, noting that they received notification of the suicide on Sunday. “In the presence of family members, we opened the room and retrieved the body. He had just returned from his village that morning. The precise reason for the suicide remains unknown,” Singh stated.
The police have launched an investigation and plan to interview family and friends to uncover possible motives behind this act.
After the postmortem, the body has been returned to the family.
This heartbreaking event raises further alarm regarding the rising instances of student suicides in Kota, a significant coaching hub where high academic demands and personal challenges are often cited as factors.
