Kolkata, May 16 (NationPress) The Trinamool Congress declared an organisational reshuffle for West Bengal on Friday, as stated by a party leader. From now on, two out of 35 districts will have their organisational affairs managed by a core committee comprised of several members, rather than by individual district unit presidents.
The districts affected by this change are Birbhum and Kolkata (Uttar), where incidents of organisational infighting have been notably high.
For a long time, Anubrata Mondal served as the organisational district president for Birbhum. Even after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested him in August 2022 over a significant cattle smuggling operation in West Bengal, he remained on the list as district president for a considerable period.
Eventually, following Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's directives, a core committee took over the organisational responsibilities of Birbhum, a structure that remains in place even after Mondal’s recent release on bail.
In the reshuffle announced on Friday, a nine-member core committee will now oversee organisational tasks in Birbhum, with Mondal serving as just one of its members.
In a similar move, Sudip Bandopadhyay, the party's Lok Sabha member from Kolkata (Uttar), has been relieved from his position as the organisational district president. Moving forward, a nine-member core committee will manage organisational matters in Kolkata (Uttar), with Bandopadhyay appointed only as the panel's chairperson.
Additionally, the appointments for the district presidents of Darjeeling (plains) and North 24 Parganas (Barasat) are still pending, with party leadership indicating that these names will be divulged later.
The recent reshuffle seems to favor the 'old guards' over 'new blood' across nearly all organisational districts. Political analysts anticipate the revival of discussions around the 'old guards versus new blood' issue in light of this reshuffle.
This organisational restructuring was first hinted at during the Trinamool Congress’s annual 'Martyrs’ Day' event in Kolkata on July 21 last year. A draft proposal for this reshuffle was presented to the Chief Minister in September.
At last, the organisational reshuffle was officially confirmed on Friday.
