Kolkata, July 23 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress General Secretary Kunal Ghosh raised a significant concern on Wednesday regarding the safety of Bengali-speaking tourists visiting BJP-ruled states during festive occasions like Durga Puja.
“Alarming reports of heinous acts against Bengali-speaking individuals are emerging from BJP-governed territories. In states such as Haryana, Odisha, and Assam, the BJP-led administrations are allegedly engaging in severe harassment and mistreatment of Bengali-speaking communities. How safe are they in these regions?” Ghosh questioned.
During the Durga Puja festivities in September and October, a significant number of Bengali tourists from West Bengal travel throughout the country to celebrate.
Ghosh urged individuals to exercise caution while journeying in BJP-administered states, emphasizing the sensitive nature of the situation.
“I cannot definitively state whether they should avoid these states. Are they really safe traveling to BJP-ruled areas during Durga Puja? I must remark that the BJP seems desperate. So, stay vigilant,” he cautioned.
The Trinamool Congress has already criticized the BJP over this issue, with party leader Mamata Banerjee expressing strong opposition to these attacks.
She has also pledged to initiate a Bhasa Andolan (language movement) to combat the BJP's perceived discriminatory approach towards Bengalis.
Moreover, Trinamool Congress MPs have staged protests outside Parliament, demanding accountability from the central government.
Ghosh has opened a new front by questioning the safety of Bengali tourists from West Bengal visiting BJP-ruled states during the holidays.
