Kolkata, Nov 29 (NationPress) On Saturday, the Trinamool Congress urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to promptly disclose the transcript of the meeting held with the party’s 10-member Parliamentary delegation and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar at the commission's headquarters in Delhi on November 28.

The head of the Parliamentary delegation, Derek O’Brien, who also leads the Trinamool Congress Parliamentary party in the Rajya Sabha, emphasized that the meeting, which lasted approximately 55 minutes, should be made available in full to ensure transparency.

Following the meeting on Friday evening, Abhishek Banerjee, the general secretary of Trinamool Congress and a Lok Sabha member, accused the ECI of misleading the public through selective information leaks regarding the delegation’s points addressing concerns about the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal.

He mentioned that the party possesses substantial digital evidence demonstrating how the ECI's narrative is being misrepresented through orchestrated and falsified leaks, advising the commission to reconsider its confrontational stance towards both West Bengal and the Trinamool Congress.

Just one day after the meeting, the Trinamool leadership reiterated their call for the complete transcript's release.

O'Brien also raised questions about the CEC's choice not to conduct an official press conference to inform the media about the meeting's proceedings. “We have nothing to hide. If the ECI has nothing to conceal, it should take the necessary time and then hold an official press briefing,” O’Brien stated on Saturday.

He criticized the commission's move to appoint central observers for the ongoing process in the state, asserting, “The decision to appoint roll observers was made without consulting the state government. The ECI is overstepping its boundaries,” O'Brien remarked.

Point of View

It's essential to recognize the Trinamool Congress's demand for transparency in the electoral process.
