Agartala, Nov 22 (NationPress) - The primary opposition party, CPI-M, has publicly criticized the remarks made by Chief Minister Manik Saha, labeling them as "groundless, irrelevant, and anti-Communist". This condemnation came after Saha's comments during his visit to the violence-affected Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) headquarters in Khumulwng, where tensions between BJP and its partner, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), have escalated.
The CPI-M asserted that instead of denouncing the violence in Khumulwng, Saha engaged in false propaganda against the Communists and the CPI-M, attempting to divert attention from the actions of BJP and TMP activists.
The Left party's statement highlighted that Saha's comments, particularly those referencing CPI-M's governance in Kerala, West Bengal, and Tripura, reflected a deep-seated hatred for Communists. They claimed that the Chief Minister's fabrications were intended to distract the public from the atrocities committed by the ruling alliance.
Furthermore, the CPI-M accused CM Saha, who holds the dual roles of Chief Minister and Home Minister, of failing to uphold law and order, which has led to violent clashes between BJP and TMP supporters.
The Left party emphasized that Saha's remarks were a cover for his inability to manage the escalating violence amidst allegations of corruption over the past few days across Jirania, Khumulwng, Jampuijala, and Takarjala.
Reportedly, clashes have resulted in the burning of party offices belonging to both BJP and TMP, vandalism of properties, and assaults on individuals, while local police stations have remained ineffective in addressing the situation, creating fear among the populace.
The CPI-M demanded accountability from the Chief Minister for the breakdown of law and order and called for a condemnation of the violence.
Reacting to the situation, CM Saha asserted that many in the state still possess a "Communist mentality" and attributed ongoing violence, including arson and acts of terrorism, to the CPI-M.
He also mentioned a recent incident where a woman was reportedly brutally attacked and robbed, emphasizing the need for decisive action against such incidents.
During his visit, Saha was accompanied by several BJP leaders and addressed the need for improvements in the relations between BJP and TMP, although he underscored that any violence is unacceptable.
Amid rising tensions, TMP leader and Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma demanded the transfer of the Home Department to his party, criticizing the current administration's handling of the ongoing political violence.
Debbarma accused the police of being ineffective, despite knowing the identities of the perpetrators involved in the violence, while hinting at potential political repercussions regarding the alliance with BJP.
