Agartala, April 3 (NationPress) The Tripura government is considering the possibility of filing an FIR against 34 tribal students who allegedly submitted fraudulent income certificates to obtain post-matric scholarships, as stated by an official on Thursday.

A senior official from the Tribal Welfare Department revealed that show cause notices have been issued to these students for their submission of fake income certificates to avail scholarships.

“We will await responses from the 34 students until April 16. Should they fail to respond by this date or if their responses are inadequate, we will proceed with filing FIRs against all of them,” the official remarked.

It was noted that more than 35,660 tribal students had applied for post-matric scholarships via the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for the academic year 2023-24, with 34,436 students receiving scholarships totaling Rs 68.13 crore.

As part of this scholarship initiative, the government covers the entire tuition fees for eligible students enrolled in various courses.

Among the 34 students, three are from Gomati district, four from Khowai district, eight from West Tripura district, thirteen from Sepahijala district, two from Dhalai and South Tripura districts, and one each hailing from North Tripura and Unakoti districts.
