Agartala, May 17 (NationPress) The largest dairy facility in the Northeast has officially opened its doors in Tripura, with the event being graced by Chief Minister Manik Saha and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying.

The newly inaugurated milk processing unit at Bamutia boasts an impressive capacity of 40,000 tonnes per day, making it the premier dairy establishment across the eight northeastern states.

During the ceremony, Chief Minister Saha highlighted that this second unit of the Gomati Dairy was constructed on a 3.57-acre plot at an investment of around Rs 22.01 crore. Out of this total, Rs 19.41 crore was allocated by the central government, while the state contributed Rs 2.60 crore.

The Gomati Dairy initiative, supported by the Tripura government, involves 178 cooperative societies and is set to provide opportunities for over 5,000 dairy farmers in enhancing the rural economy.

Saha remarked that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have emphasized the importance of cooperative sectors in uplifting rural livelihoods.

He noted that in Tripura, more than nine lakh individuals, including many women, are engaged in cooperative enterprises. Women also play a significant role in Self Help Groups (SHGs), contributing to their family incomes.

Currently, Tripura supports 53,623 SHGs through the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission, with approximately 4.84 lakh rural women involved. Furthermore, 5,941 SHGs have been established under the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission, encompassing 63,743 urban women.

The government has disbursed Rs 746.80 crore in financial assistance to these SHG members to facilitate various business ventures.

In alignment with Prime Minister Modi's vision, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to transparency, job creation, and effective service delivery.

Among the SHG participants, 91,871 women have emerged as 'Lakhpati Didis' through their entrepreneurial pursuits.

The state government aims to achieve self-sufficiency in the production of fish, meat, milk, and eggs within the next five years, with the Animal Resources Department leading these efforts.

Additionally, the Chief Minister stressed the significance of agriculture and horticulture alongside animal husbandry for comprehensive rural development.
