Agartala, June 4 (NationPress) In a bid to enhance the appeal of tourist destinations within the state, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has formally requested the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) for essential financial support to launch a seaplane service at Narikelkunja located in Dumbur Lake in the Gomati district.
The Chief Minister presented this initiative during the second assembly of the High-Level Task Force (HLTF), which was established by the DoNER Ministry, chaired by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, focused on advancing tourism in the northeastern sector.
Dumbur Lake is an enchanting water body situated 115 km to the south of Agartala. This picturesque lake is formed at the juncture of the Raima and Sarma rivers. Visitors can enjoy boating activities on Dumboor Lake, and one of its islands, Narkel Kunja, has been developed into one of Tripura's prime tourist spots.
Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with the Meghalaya Chief Minister and other task force members, participated in the virtual meeting held on Wednesday.
Throughout the discussions, Saha emphasized the necessity of formulating a strategic framework to lure both national and international investments by pinpointing high-potential areas and projects across the northeastern states.
Furthermore, he highlighted the significance of assessing current investment practices, revisiting tourism policies, investment incentive schemes, and regulatory frameworks to foster a more favorable environment for growth.
In his remarks about the advancements since the initial HLTF meeting, the Chief Minister detailed several initiatives from the state. He mentioned the introduction of new home stay guidelines aimed at promoting the tourism sector, with 48 home stays currently operational throughout various regions of the state, emphasizing that these home stays significantly contribute to tourism.
Saha also brought up a recent visit by a delegation led by the Regional Executive Director of the northeastern region and the Director of Agartala’s MBB Airport to the currently unused Kailashahar Airport, as part of efforts to restore regional air connectivity.
“There are 29 registered tour operators under the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation,” he remarked.
“The Tourism Department is actively engaging in road shows and North Eastern Investment Conferences to attract tourism investments. Measures are also underway to enhance existing tourist lodges,” asserted the Chief Minister.
Participating in the virtual meeting were Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Minister Pasang Dorji Sona, Sikkim Tourism Minister Tshering T. Bhutia, and other stakeholders from the region.
