A ‘Lakhpati Didi’ is defined as an SHG member whose annual household income surpasses Rs one lakh. Their success is not only financial; they serve as role models by adopting sustainable livelihood practices and achieving a commendable standard of living.

Roy emphasized that SHGs empower women to become ‘Lakhpati Didis’ through collective efforts, financial education, and skill enhancement, thus fostering entrepreneurial opportunities.

The government is actively supporting this initiative, encouraging diverse livelihood activities and fostering collaboration across sectors for effective planning and execution, he stated.

The Minister further highlighted that the state has established the “Tripura State Policy for Empowerment of Women” and has undertaken several measures to uplift women both economically and socially.

He shared that the state government has already allocated 33 percent of government job positions for women.

Currently, there are 52,902 SHGs functioning under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), with 475,582 rural women participating in these groups. Additionally, around 6,000 SHGs have been established under the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission, which includes 63,743 urban women.

Earlier, Chief Minister Manik Saha stated that prior to the BJP's governance in Tripura in 2018, there were merely 4,000 SHGs operational in the state.

To bolster women's empowerment, the Chief Minister mentioned that 33 percent reservations for women in government positions have been established, and to break stigma, 137 women have been inducted into Tripura's elite force, Tripura State Rifles (TSR).

Referring to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Saha, who also oversees Home Affairs, noted that Tripura ranks third among 28 states in overall crime rates and eighth in crimes against women.

He remarked that women comprise 41 percent of the workforce in Tripura's start-up sector, and their performance is commendable. Furthermore, over seven lakh women in Tripura have benefited from two national government-sponsored insurance schemes.
