Agartala, April 19 (NationPress) Tripura Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury stated on Saturday that the state government is considering the launch of ‘Seaplane Tourism’ to enhance tourism and connectivity within the northeastern region.

Following a virtual meeting with a private airline that operates seaplanes across various parts of the country, the minister pointed out that Tripura boasts several water-based tourism sites, allowing both foreign and domestic tourists to explore these attractions via seaplane.

“Tripura has several notable aquatic tourism destinations. The most renowned among them are Chabimura, Narikel Kunja, and Rudrasagar Lake situated in southern and western Tripura,” he mentioned, emphasizing that the proposed seaplane initiative would boost tourism, economic growth, and connectivity in the state.

The Minister indicated that following the recent virtual meeting with the airline, the government will now evaluate this new initiative before making a definitive decision.

“If we determine that the seaplane operations are feasible, they will be managed jointly by the Tourism and Transport departments,” he added.

In India, there are two prominent ‘water palaces’ -- Jal Mahal in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and Neermahal in Tripura, both of which draw significant numbers of international and local tourists.

Neermahal, which translates to ‘Water Palace’, is a stunning royal residence situated in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake, approximately 53 km south of Agartala.

Constructed in 1930 by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya as a summer retreat, it reflects the influence of Mughal architectural style.

Another noteworthy aquatic site, Chabimura, is celebrated for its impressive rock carvings etched into the steep mountain walls along the Gomati River. These carvings depict Shiva, Vishnu, Kartika, Mahisasurmardini Durga, and various other deities, dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries AD.

Dumboor Lake, a picturesque water body located 115 km south of Agartala, is formed by the confluence of the Raima and Sarma rivers. Boating services are available in Dumboor Lake, and Narkel Kunja, situated on one of its islands, has been developed into one of Tripura's prime tourist locations.
