Chennai, Feb 9 (NationPress) The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has revealed that it will form political alliances exclusively with parties that acknowledge the leadership of its founder and Tamil icon, Vijay.

In a statement released on Sunday, the TVK confirmed that Vijay is the party's candidate for Chief Minister.

This announcement arises amidst rumors that TVK was negotiating with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) regarding a possible alliance.

Reports indicated that discussions may have included securing the Deputy Chief Minister's position and obtaining 60 Assembly seats for the upcoming 2026 elections.

Nonetheless, the TVK's statement has dispelled all such speculations.

Vijay, a beloved figure in Tamil Nadu's film industry, declared his political party's inception in February 2024.

His fan organization, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, contested the 2021 local body elections, successfully winning 115 seats.

During the party's launch, Vijay stated that TVK would abstain from contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, choosing instead to concentrate on the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

He stressed that the party's mission is to instigate profound political change in the region.

"Our aim is to participate in the 2026 Assembly elections and spearhead the fundamental political transformation that the populace seeks," Vijay expressed.

He also addressed critical issues impacting Tamil Nadu's political climate: "On one side, corruption is entrenched in society and governance, while on the other, a politics of hate and division is taking root."

At TVK's inaugural rally on October 27, 2024, in Villupuram, Vijay unveiled the party's ideological foundation, which merges Dravidian tenets with Tamil nationalism.

The rally, held in Vikkaravandi, attracted an enormous crowd exceeding 300,000 attendees, signifying a pivotal event in the state's political narrative.

In his address, Vijay criticized the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), alleging it operates as a family-centric organization that leverages the Dravidian identity for personal interests.

He also denounced the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for fostering divisive politics.

Vijay urged TVK members to maintain integrity and interact with political opponents respectfully, particularly addressing critiques from Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman with factual responses and decorum.

Furthermore, Vijay advised TVK members to reply constructively and respectfully to criticism, even on social media platforms.

With its steadfast commitment to leadership and ideology, TVK is gearing up to emerge as a significant contender in Tamil Nadu's 2026 Assembly elections.
