Chennai, Feb 25 (NationPress) The Tamil superstar-turned-politician Vijay's political party, TVK, is gearing up to honor its first anniversary at a private venue in Mahabalipuram on Wednesday (February 25). Notably, the Jan Suraaj Party's founder and political strategist Prashant Kishor is expected to attend the gathering.
N. Anand, the General Secretary of TVK, mentioned that the anniversary celebration will be spearheaded by the party's founder and president, Vijay.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Anand expressed that TVK, which was established on the ideals of love, compassion, and altruistic service, has achieved remarkable progress in the past year.
Anand, a former MLA from Puducherry, attributed the party's increasing popularity to the steadfast support of the public, who have shown confidence in TVK's vision and principles.
Sources within TVK suggest that various political figures, including B. Kaliyammal, the leader of the women’s wing of Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), may join TVK in the presence of Vijay during the anniversary festivities.
Vijay officially inaugurated Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on February 2, 2024, asserting his stance against corruption and divisive politics. Although he opted out of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he declared that TVK would participate in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.
On August 22, 2024, Vijay revealed the party’s official flag and song at TVK’s headquarters in Panaiyur, Chennai. The party's first conference took place on October 27, 2024, in Vikravandi, Villupuram district, attracting a massive turnout of approximately three lakh attendees. This led to significant traffic disruptions in both Vikravandi and Mundiyampakkam, with vehicles rerouted on the Chennai-Tiruchi National Highway. During this conference, Vijay vehemently criticized both the DMK and BJP, labeling the BJP as his ideological adversary and the DMK as his political rival.
He accused DMK of being a family-centered party that misuses the “Dravidian” identity for selfish interests while denouncing the BJP for its divisive tactics.
In response to Vijay's remarks, the DMK labeled him as the “C team” of the BJP.
A.N.S. Prasad, a spokesperson for BJP Tamil Nadu, advised Vijay to focus on the welfare of the people rather than engaging in political disputes. He also highlighted that Vijay had received backing from various political groups, including the BJP, as he ventured into the political arena.
Vijay's political influence has been on the rise since his fan club, All India Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (AITVMI), won 115 out of 169 seats contested in the 2021 Tamil Nadu local body elections. In comparison, Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) and Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) did not secure any seats. This triumph has strengthened Vijay's standing in Tamil Nadu's political arena. He has also indicated that TVK will only collaborate with parties that respect his leadership. Political analysts perceive this as an indication that Vijay is aspiring for the Chief Minister’s position in the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly.
