Chennai, Sep 30 (NationPress) TVK election campaign management General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna has ignited a political uproar with a social media message, now deleted, calling for a “youth revolution” against the authorities.
In a late-night post on X on Monday, Aadhav Arjuna stated: “If walking on the streets leads to beatings, and posting a comment on social media results in arrest, then when the police have become mere servants of the powerful, the only way to restore order is through a youth revolution. Just as the youth and Gen Z united against authorities in Sri Lanka and Nepal, our youth will rise here too. That rise will establish the foundation for regime change and the end of state terror. When demons rule, even funeral grounds consume corpses.”
This post, perceived as provocative, was removed within minutes, yet screenshots quickly circulated widely.
Political parties throughout Tamil Nadu, still grappling with the aftermath of the Karur tragedy, responded strongly.
This situation unfolds as the state mourns the tragic stampede at actor-politician Vijay’s TVK rally in Velayuthampalayam, Karur, on September 27. The event, part of TVK’s election campaign, turned disastrous when an overcrowded venue led to chaos and a deadly crush.
Forty-one individuals, including eight children, tragically lost their lives, with over 60 others sustaining injuries.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who arrived in Karur hours after the incident, announced an inquiry commission led by retired High Court judge Justice Aruna Jagadeesan and assured that “rules and guidelines for political rallies” would be established following the report.
He urged the public “not to disseminate unverified claims or malicious comments during this sensitive period.”
AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami offered condolences but criticized poor crowd management and called for “an impartial investigation beyond mere formalities.”
Vijay, who has faced both sorrow and backlash following the fatalities, labeled the stampede as “an unimaginable tragedy” and pledged personal assistance, including Rs 20 lakh for each affected family.
He has also demanded accountability for any failures in security and venue management.
Opposition leaders contended that Aadhav Arjuna’s comments could exacerbate tensions while families are still grieving.
Ruling DMK figures denounced the post as “irresponsible,” while AIADMK claimed it reflected TVK’s frustration following the deadly rally.
As the state continues to cope with the Karur catastrophe, the deleted post has introduced a precarious political dynamic to an already charged atmosphere.
