Two Arrested for Dragging Tribal Man in Wayanad; Two Others Flee

Wayanad, Dec 17 (NationPress) The Kerala Police have apprehended two individuals following a tribal man's harrowing experience of being dragged for nearly half a kilometer, an incident that has ignited widespread outrage in Wayanad.
This disturbing event took place on Sunday evening at the Koodal Kadavu check dam site when Mathan (49), a tribal inhabitant of Mananthavady, stepped in during a verbal conflict between two groups of tourists. Mathan confronted one group for their harassment of the other, which seemingly incited the ensuing violence.
At the time of the altercation, four youths were inside the vehicle. The police managed to apprehend Abhiram and Harshid after stopping a bus journeying from Bengaluru to Wayanad. The other two suspects, Vishnu and Nabeel, are presently on the run.
Surveillance footage of the incident, which has rapidly circulated on social media, depicts the appalling manner in which Mathan was pulled along the road.
Reports indicate that one of the individuals in the car clutched Mathan's hand as the vehicle accelerated away.
From his hospital bed, Mathan recounted the traumatic experience: “I sustained injuries to my hands and legs. One of them was gripping my hand while I was being dragged.”
The Kerala Police have filed a case and confiscated the vehicle implicated in the incident.
This occurrence has elicited widespread denunciation, with Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi and other political figures advocating for severe repercussions against the assailants. “The Kerala government must ensure swift justice in this matter and take stringent actions against them,” the Wayanad MP stated.
In response to the public outcry, the Kerala government has declared that it will cover the entirety of Mathan’s medical expenses.
Former State Minister of SC/ST and current Lok Sabha member K. Radhakrishnan remarked that incidents like these are generally rare in Kerala. “Just because someone possesses wealth, they should not be allowed to evade justice; the law must pursue them,” Radhakrishnan emphasized.
