Copper coil theft in Bhiwadi: Two UP men arrested for ₹1.50 crore heist
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Police in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan have arrested two men from Uttar Pradesh in connection with the theft of copper coils worth approximately ₹1.50 crore from a private company warehouse in the Khairthal-Tijara district. The accused allegedly conspired with an insider security guard, drugged two on-duty employees, and made off with the goods in a carefully coordinated operation.
How the Theft Unfolded
According to a police complaint filed by warehouse in-charge Mahesh Chandra Sharma, the incident took place on the night of 9 June. Security guard Ramnarayan — allegedly part of the conspiracy — mixed a sedative drug into a cold drink and administered it to gunman Mukesh Kumar and worker Balmukund, who were on duty at the time. Both lost consciousness shortly after consuming the drink.
With the guards incapacitated, unidentified outsiders entered the premises, damaged the warehouse's CCTV cameras, loaded two copper coils onto a vehicle, and fled the scene. A formal case was subsequently registered at Bhiwadi Police Station.
Investigation and Arrests
A police team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Sachin Sharma launched a multi-pronged investigation, examining CCTV footage from surrounding areas, tapping informant networks, engaging the cyber team, and questioning suspects arrested in other theft cases. The investigation eventually led to two individuals from Risaldaran, under the Sikandrabad Police Station area of Bulandshahr district, Uttar Pradesh.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shahid, son of Salim, and Salman, son of Ishayak. Both are described by police as habitual offenders with multiple prior criminal cases registered against them.
Where the Stolen Goods Went
According to police, the accused sold the stolen copper coils to an unidentified scrap dealer in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and reportedly used the proceeds on luxuries and drugs. Investigators say the duo specifically targeted companies where security guards or workers had drug dependencies — a pattern they allegedly exploited to execute thefts with insider collaboration.
What Comes Next
Further investigation is underway to recover the stolen property, identify the scrap dealer who purchased the coils, and establish the full scope of the alleged conspiracy. Police have not yet confirmed whether the insider security guard Ramnarayan has been arrested.
