Chandigarh, Oct 21 (NationPress) In a significant intelligence-driven operation, the Punjab Police, in collaboration with central agencies, have detained two suspected terror operatives, Mehakdeep Singh and Aditya, in Amritsar. During the operation, one rocket-propelled grenade was also confiscated, as confirmed by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.
Initial inquiries have disclosed that the suspects were in contact with an operative from Pakistan's ISI, who allegedly dispatched the weapon.
The seized rocket-propelled grenade was reportedly intended for a specific terror attack. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at the police station in Gharinda, located in Amritsar.
Ongoing investigations aim to uncover the entire network, stated the DGP.
Last week, in another major intelligence-led operation, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police dismantled a cross-border organized arms and narcotics smuggling operation linked to Pakistan, arresting three operatives and seizing ten advanced pistols along with 500 grams of opium.
The weapons recovered included four 9MM Glock pistols and six .30 bore pistols. DGP Yadav noted that the arrested individuals were part of an inter-district smuggling gang connected to a handler based in Pakistan.
The confiscated firearms were intended to be distributed to gangsters and criminals to fuel illegal activities in Punjab.
Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar reported that the accused Rajan was initially apprehended with one .30 bore pistol and some opium, and his questioning led to the discovery of the broader network.
Throughout the investigation, another suspect, Surinder Singh, was arrested, resulting in the recovery of three .30 bore pistols and one 9 mm pistol. The probe further led to the arrest of a third suspect, Jagjit Singh, from whom five pistols, including three Glock 9mm and two .30 bore, were retrieved.
It was revealed that Jagjit Singh had returned from Dubai four months prior. Surinder's village is located near the international border in Jalalabad, Fazilka district, while Jagjit's is situated close to the border in Tarn Taran district.
The accused were reportedly retrieving drone-delivered shipments from Amritsar to the Fazilka and Tarn Taran sectors for direct supply and through location-based delivery systems.
