Two Union Carbide Waste Containers Reported 'Missing'; Two Arrested for Spreading False Claims

Pithampur (Madhya Pradesh), Jan 7 (NationPress) Authorities have apprehended two individuals for propagating misleading claims that a pair of out of twelve container trucks loaded with hazardous waste from Union Carbide's factory went missing from the Ramky facility in Pithampur, as stated by Dhar district collector Priyank Mishra on Monday.
He elaborated that these miscreants utilized social media to spread misinformation on this crucial matter, despite explicit directives from the district administration to avoid disseminating false information that could incite violence.
"Two individuals have been arrested for spreading false claims regarding the disappearance of two containers from the Ramky facility. This information is completely false and misleading, shared through various social media platforms. We will take stringent action against anyone found responsible for spreading such rumours," Mishra asserted.
He also mentioned that extensive security measures have been implemented at the Ramky factory's premises to ensure public safety, as numerous individuals attempted to approach the location where the containers are stationed.
"Security has been enforced to prevent unauthorized access to the containers. This is for safety reasons, not to guard the Ramky factory. All twelve containers are secured within the Ramky factory's premises, and they will only be accessed under the High Court's directive," Mishra confirmed.
It is important to note that all twelve containers, containing over 337 metric tonnes of hazardous chemical waste from the site of the infamous Bhopal gas tragedy, are currently secured at the Ramky factory under stringent security by state police. The containers arrived in Pithampur early on January 2. The state government, in a status report submitted to the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday, indicated that public unrest has arisen due to certain false media reports that have circulated various baseless claims.
In response to the situation, the Court has ordered the media to refrain from publishing any fake news or misinformation concerning the disposal of Union Carbide waste at the Pithampur facility. The Court has also granted a six-week period for the state government to adhere to its directives regarding the disposal of Union Carbide's hazardous waste, with the next hearing scheduled for February 18.
