Bhubaneswar, April 27 (NationPress) In a deeply disturbing event, the Ganjam Police in Odisha apprehended an individual on Sunday for the heinous act of murdering his four-year-old niece after assaulting her sexually in the Pattapur Police station vicinity a few days prior.
The statement released by the Ganjam Police detailed that the young girl was reported missing on the evening of April 25. Despite a thorough search conducted by her family and locals, they were unable to locate her.
Later that same day, her family lodged a missing person report at the Pattapur police station. Tragically, the child's body was discovered in a secluded area of an under-construction building situated in the village of her uncle.
Senior law enforcement officials, accompanied by a scientific team and dog squad, promptly arrived at the crime scene to initiate a comprehensive investigation.
After gathering initial clues, the police detained multiple suspects for questioning. With the help of forensic evidence collected from the scene and surrounding areas, authorities arrested the accused, a distant uncle of the victim, on Sunday.
The suspect has been identified as Kalia Nahak (27), also known as Sandha, who resides in the same village as the victim. Due to his familiarity with the victim's family, he frequently visited their home and would entice the young girl with snacks, such as chips and toffees.
On Sunday, police disclosed that the accused, who had been consuming alcohol and watching explicit content online prior to the crime, assaulted the child under the influence. “On April 26, while intoxicated, Kalia called the victim, who approached him due to their prior trust. He then lured her inside the incomplete New Anganwadi Building, where he raped her. When the girl resisted, he suffocated her and concealed her body in a hidden room of the building. After committing the act, he returned to drink more alcohol,” stated the police.
