Bhubaneswar, April 10 (NationPress) The Odisha Commissionerate Police has taken into custody an individual on charges of murdering his 30-year-old girlfriend, whose decomposed body was discovered along the bank of the Daya River in the Dhauli Police station jurisdiction on January 28, as reported by Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh on Thursday.

The suspect has been identified as Chandan Parida, also known as Mangu, and he originates from the Kujang region in the Jagatsinghpur district.

Parida was employed as a security guard at a private security firm located on Cuttack Road in the Laxmisagar area of Bhubaneswar.

During a press conference, the Police Commissioner stated that the Dhauli Police station began an investigation by registering a case of unnatural death.

Further findings from the post-mortem report revealed that the victim had been murdered by strangulation.

On January 17, the deceased's sister lodged a complaint at the Khandagiri police station regarding the disappearance of the victim, Sneha Behera, who had been missing since January 10.

The deceased, originally from Kandhamal, resided in Baramunda and worked for a private company.

The Police Commissioner mentioned that the Khandagiri police, as part of their investigation, were able to track down the original phone number of the victim, Sneha.

“The police discovered that the victim had made multiple calls to the suspect's mobile number. Although the accused was already on the police's radar, we intensified our surveillance on him following a scientific analysis of the phone numbers associated with both the suspect and the victim, which were last traced at the crime scene on January 10, after which both became untraceable,” he explained.

Singh further stated that subsequent investigations yielded more evidence confirming that the suspect was in a relationship with the deceased, Sneha.

“On January 10, he brought the victim to the crime scene and strangled her with a stole. After the act, he fled, quitting his job and discarding his phone,” added Singh.

The police claimed that Parida suspected the victim of having an affair with another individual and subsequently killed her following a heated dispute over the matter on January 10.

In an unexpected development, a man named Mitu Parida from Chandanpur in the Puri district was also arrested for attempting to frame his lover’s husband in the murder of Sneha.

Upon learning about Sneha's body recovery via social media and news outlets, Mitu devised a plan to implicate Ramesh Sahu of Jajpur in the case.

Mitu had been involved in an illicit relationship with Sahu’s wife. “As part of his scheme, Mitu placed Sahu's Aadhar card and a forged suicide note in a wallet and left it at the crime scene. After questioning Sahu, the facts were revealed,” stated Singh.

Mitu was apprehended by the Dhauli Police on February 6.
