UP: Hearing on Charges Related to Hathras Stampede Scheduled for Today

New Delhi, Dec 21 (NationPress) A local court is scheduled to hear charges on Saturday concerning the tragic stampede that occurred during a religious event organized by the self-proclaimed godman Narayan Sakar Hari, also referred to as Bhole Baba, in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh earlier in July this year, claiming the lives of 121 individuals.

The incident, which transpired on July 2 in Phulrai village during a ‘Satsang,’ resulted in the deaths of at least 121 individuals, including women and children, marking it as one of the most devastating tragedies in the region. Victims were discovered piled atop one another as devotees suffered from suffocation in the overcrowded venue.

The Divisional Commissioner of Aligarh, Chaitra V., confirmed 87 fatalities shortly after the incident and emphasized the Uttar Pradesh administration's commitment to delivering medical support and relief to the injured.

In his initial public response to the catastrophe, Bhole Baba characterized the tragedy as unavoidable, asserting, “Whoever has come to this Earth will have to depart one day.” He further claimed that the stampede was a conspiracy aimed at damaging his reputation.

Bhole Baba and his attorney, A.P. Singh, have asserted that eyewitness testimonies indicate a harmful substance was discharged at the gathering, inciting panic and disorder. They argue this was a calculated effort to tarnish his image.

The stampede has triggered widespread indignation and demands for accountability. Today's hearing will clarify the charges against Bhole Baba and others implicated in the event's organization.

The incident has raised substantial concerns regarding crowd control at large religious assemblies, with critics scrutinizing the organizers' readiness and the local authorities' role in averting such calamities.

The court's ruling is highly anticipated as the families of the victims and the public seek justice for the lives lost in this tragic event.
