Lucknow, Jan 16 (NationPress) Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath urged educational institutions across the state on Friday to enhance the sports culture and aid in achieving significant success in the upcoming 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2036 Olympics.
While inaugurating the East Zone Inter-University Women's Basketball Championship at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, he stated, "With Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the helm, our nation is gearing up to bid for the 2036 Olympics. It's essential to start our preparations now to secure numerous medals during this prestigious event."
The Chief Minister highlighted the state's commitment to fostering athletes, noting that over 500 medal winners have been provided with government jobs in various sectors, and more than 96,000 sports kits have been distributed to young people at the district level.
He elaborated on the support for medalists, mentioning, "Both the union and state governments now offer awards to athletes who excel in the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and World Championships."
In Uttar Pradesh, the government extends special assistance to young contenders. If a youth from the state qualifies for the Olympics and competes, they receive financial aid of Rs 10 lakh to facilitate their participation.
Chief Minister Yogi expressed, "There is a palpable enthusiasm for promoting sports here. In the last 11 years, we've witnessed the emergence of a new sports culture in our nation."
He remarked that prior to 2014, sports were not prioritized on the government's agenda, and this sector often received little attention.
He praised PM Modi's initiatives such as 'Khelo India', 'Fit India Movement', and the 'Khelo MP Youth Games' as pivotal in steering the country towards becoming a sports superpower.
The Chief Minister asserted that sports are not only vital for maintaining a healthy mind and body but also lay the groundwork for building a robust nation.
He also reminisced about how ancient sages adhered to discipline and engaged in physical activities to lead a healthy life.
