Chandigarh, Jan 16 (NationPress) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday emphasized the importance of bolstering trade relations with Canada, especially British Columbia, to foster cooperation that yields tangible benefits for enterprises and communities on both sides.

During a meeting with the Premier of British Columbia, David Eby, CM Mann stated, "Canada has always been a vital ally for India and Punjab, and we highly appreciate this partnership. We acknowledge the robust trade and investment connections between Canada and Punjab and are eager to further strengthen this foundation."

He expressed, "Punjab is fully equipped and excited to partner with Canadian enterprises in sectors of shared significance."

Highlighting the economic strengths of the state, the Chief Minister remarked, "Punjab excels in agro-processing, textiles, engineering goods, IT services, and renewable energy. With a solid infrastructure and a skilled workforce fluent in English, Punjab presents an ideal opportunity for Canadian investors."

He also noted, "Punjab ranks among the top states in the nation for ease of doing business, and through Invest Punjab, we offer a single-window clearance system alongside comprehensive support for investors."

The Chief Minister pointed out that the expertise of British Columbia closely aligns with the developmental goals of Punjab.

"The strengths of British Columbia in sustainable agriculture, food security, and greenhouse technologies align seamlessly with Punjab's agricultural modernization objectives. We envision substantial opportunities in precision farming, post-harvest systems, and value-added food processing," he remarked.

On the topic of education, CM Mann mentioned, "Education and skill enhancement represent another promising area where collaborations with Canadian universities in research and vocational training could have a transformative effect."

Highlighting the role of the diaspora, the Chief Minister stated that the Punjabi community in Canada acts as a significant bridge for commercial and cultural exchange. The Punjab government aims to fortify these connections further through cultural and educational initiatives.

He invited Canada to join as a partner nation at the Progressive Punjab Investors Summit -- 2026, which will feature special business delegations, sector-specific sessions, and high-level roundtables, thereby enhancing trade and cultural collaboration.

The Chief Minister also encouraged leading Canadian universities to consider establishing campuses in Mohali. Meanwhile, Premier David Eby expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality received.

"The welcome I have received in Punjab has made my visit truly unforgettable," he noted.

Emphasizing the significance of people-to-people connections, he added, "Punjab holds a special place in the hearts of Punjabis residing in British Columbia, and this bond should be further nurtured."

Expressing enthusiasm for increased collaboration, the Premier stated, "We are eager to enhance business ties with Punjab and will explore opportunities for mutual exchange in areas such as skill development, energy, and other sectors."
