Lucknow, Oct 12 (NationPress) Amidst the serious incident of a minor’s gang-rape in Lucknow, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has heavily criticized the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh for its failure in maintaining law and order, addressing issues of corruption, oppression, and injustice.
“The state’s law and order has hit rock bottom,” he stated, responding to the recent gang-rape incident and ridiculing the BJP government’s promises of zero tolerance towards crime.
He further condemned the controversial police encounters with criminals, asserting that if such encounters were effective, they would have already improved the law and order situation.
“The police force, which should be focused on crime prevention, is being manipulated by the government for political gains and to file false charges against opposition leaders,” he accused.
“When the BJP exploits the police for political purposes, it inevitably leads to a decline in law and order. This is a major factor contributing to the widespread insecurity among women,” he added.
Referring to the recent gang-rape case, Yadav cited National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data highlighting that Uttar Pradesh has witnessed the highest number of crimes against Dalits, particularly the PDA community, under BJP rule.
The PDA represents pichde (backward classes), Dalits, and alpsankhyak (minorities).
Yadav remarked, "The BJP is attempting to conceal its failures. While the Chief Minister speaks from a privileged position, the reality is that oppression, injustice, and serious crimes are rampant in Uttar Pradesh. Corruption has reached alarming levels."
He pointed out that the very department meant to assist the populace is riddled with corruption, citing a lekhpal in Kanpur discovered with around Rs 100 crore in illegal assets.
Criticizing the overall administrative failure, Yadav remarked, “Neither the health nor the education department has effectively served the citizens.”
He also condemned the administration for preventing his party members from honoring the statue of Jaiprakash Narayan on his birth anniversary on Saturday.
“JP’s call for revolution arose due to the peaks of unemployment and corruption,” he said, highlighting the widening gap between the rich and the poor.
Yadav also paid respects to Ram Manohar Lohia on his death anniversary on Sunday.
