Urgent Action Required for Finalizing Land Records Digitization in J&K: Official

Jammu, Dec 4 (NationPress) The Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir convened a meeting with the Revenue Department to evaluate the progress of the land records digitization initiative in J&K.

An official statement revealed that the Chief Secretary urged the Department officials to take immediate action to bring the digitization project to completion, noting that a significant portion of the work has already been accomplished.

He pointed out that the next objective for the Department should be to merge these records with geo-referenced cadastral maps and make them accessible to the public for enhanced usability.

Additionally, he emphasized the need for the Department to form teams of revenue specialists who would visit various districts to assess the accuracy of these digitized records.

It was highlighted that ensuring the quality and accuracy of these records is crucial, and the public should actively participate in reviewing their records for any inconsistencies so that corrections can be made promptly.

During this meeting, Dulloo also acknowledged the online services offered by the Department to the public. He instructed the officers to take strict measures against those breaching the timelines established by the Public Service Guarantee Act (PSGA) for various services, stressing the importance of preventing last-minute application rejections or cancellations, which undermine the purpose of this act.

However, the Financial Commissioner (Revenue) mentioned that the Department has made notable strides in the digitization process, with the majority completed by the field officials, except for the Jammu and Srinagar districts.

He disclosed that the Department is presently engaged in the verification process to ensure the quality and accuracy of these records. He indicated that this verification would be finalized within a month to allow the Department to proceed with integrating the records with vectorized cadastral maps.

The Secretary of Revenue provided details about the Department's achievements in this regard, as well as the future steps to be implemented under the land records modernization program.

He stated that the aim of this program is to establish a modern, comprehensive, and transparent land records management system.

The meeting also covered the progress made thus far and the planned future actions. It was noted that after digitization, the Department is focused on digitizing cadastral maps, with geo-referencing completed to a level of 89 percent across villages.

Furthermore, the meeting highlighted that the integration of spatial (geo-referenced) maps with digitized RoRs represents the next step in the action plan, ultimately leading to their availability on the LRIS portal for public use and convenience.
