Washington, May 7 (NationPress) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that he is vigilantly observing the developments between India and Pakistan "closely."
Previously, President Donald Trump remarked that the Indian military actions against Pakistan were anticipated and expressed his “hope that it concludes swiftly.”
In a recent update on X, Marco Rubio stated, “I am closely monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan. I echo @POTUS’s earlier comments that we hope for a quick resolution and will continue to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership towards a peaceful outcome.”
The Indian embassy in Washington confirmed that India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval briefed Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who also serves as National Security Adviser, regarding the military actions taken.
“It’s unfortunate,” President Trump commented during an unrelated press interaction at the White House. “We heard about it just as we were entering the Oval Office ... They’ve been in conflict for a long time. ... I truly hope it ends swiftly.”
The Indian embassy further stated, “Shortly after the strikes, NSA Ajit Doval communicated with US NSA and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to update him on the actions undertaken.”
“India’s actions were focused and precise. They were responsible and intended to avoid escalation. No civilian, economic, or military targets in Pakistan were affected. Only known terrorist camps were targeted,” they added.
The embassy indicated that India possesses credible leads, technical data, survivor testimonies, and further evidence implicating Pakistan-based terrorists in this attack, and that Pakistan was expected to respond against those responsible.
“It was anticipated that Pakistan would take action against terrorists and the infrastructure supporting them. Instead, in the two weeks since, Pakistan has engaged in denial and made accusations of false flag operations against India,” they continued.
President Trump’s comments marked the first remarks from an American official following the strikes.
Earlier, Tammy Bruce, a spokesperson for the state department, informed reporters that the situation between India and Pakistan is a "dynamic, serious issue."
She reiterated the US's previous stance, stating, “This situation continues to evolve. We are actively monitoring it. We urge both Pakistan and India to pursue a responsible resolution that ensures long-term peace and stability in South Asia.
“We are maintaining communication with both governments at various levels. We are not merely observing from a distance. We are actively engaged and aware of the various developments occurring in this sensitive context,” Bruce concluded.
