Washington, April 30 (NationPress) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has urged both India and Pakistan to refrain from escalating tensions. He plans to communicate this message in upcoming phone discussions with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
The US is also encouraging global leaders to relay the same message to both nations.
“We are reaching out to both parties, advising them explicitly not to escalate the situation,” stated Tammy Bruce, the State Department spokesperson, while reading a statement from Secretary Rubio on Tuesday. “The Secretary anticipates speaking with the foreign ministers of Pakistan and India as soon as today or tomorrow.”
Bruce further mentioned that Secretary Rubio is also motivating other national leaders to engage with these countries regarding this issue.
Additionally, the US has been involved with both India and Pakistan through various other channels, although specifics were not provided, and there have been no updates on the calls from the State Department.
Rubio’s remarks came shortly after reports indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had authorized the armed forces with “complete operational freedom to determine the mode, targets, and timing of our response.”
This authorization followed a high-level meeting led by PM Modi, which included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and the chiefs of the three military branches.
Just hours after last week’s Pahalgam terrorist attack, President Donald Trump reached out to Prime Minister Modi.
During that conversation, the Indian Prime Minister expressed: “India is resolute in bringing the perpetrators and their supporters of this cowardly and heinous terrorist attack to justice,” highlighting India’s commitment not only to punish the terrorists but also their backers, hinting at Pakistan.
Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, also expressed US support for India’s mission to “hunt down” those responsible for the attack in a post on X.
