Uttar Pradesh Administration Establishes Committee to Resolve Farmers' Protest Issues

Lucknow, Dec 4 (NationPress) The Uttar Pradesh administration has made a decisive move to address the ongoing issues faced by farmers engaged in protests.
A new committee has been established with the responsibility of providing a detailed report within a month.
On Tuesday, Abhishek Prakash, the Secretary of the Industrial Development Department, issued the announcement.
During the same day, law enforcement apprehended over a hundred protestors, including leaders from farmers' organizations, in Gautam Buddh Nagar, as mentioned by Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh.
The protestors were advocating for compensation regarding land that was previously acquired by the government. Women and elderly individuals who were detained during the demonstration were subsequently released.
The committee's principal objective is to investigate the concerns raised by farmers regarding land acquisition and compensation disputes. It will also evaluate issues stemming from previous government directives dated February 21, 2024, and August 27, 2024.
This panel comprises the Special Secretary Revenue, Additional Chief Executive Officer of UPEIDA, Deputy Secretary Industrial Development, a representative from the local district administration, and a member from the local authority. This group will hold hearings with stakeholders and verify past decisions to formulate a plan for addressing the farmers' issues.
The committee aims to resolve grievances by actively engaging with stakeholders and reviewing previous rulings.
The ultimate goal is to devise a strategy that effectively addresses the problems brought forth by the protesting farmers.
The government is optimistic that this initiative will facilitate a peaceful resolution to the ongoing protests.
Efforts are concentrated on ensuring fair compensation for farmers while thoroughly addressing their concerns.
The findings of the committee will play a significant role in shaping future policies regarding land acquisition and compensation in Uttar Pradesh.
Farmers from various regions of Uttar Pradesh demanding appropriate compensation for their lands acquired by the government marched towards Delhi on Monday but were halted at the Noida-Delhi border, where they conducted a dharna.
The farmers stated that if their demands were not fulfilled within a week, they would march towards Delhi again.
Significant traffic disruptions occurred for commuters crossing the Delhi-Noida borders as police erected numerous layers of barricades and deployed heavy security to prevent the march, coinciding with the beginning of Parliament's Winter Session.
In a statement, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella organization representing 12 farmers’ bodies, indicated that the farmers had opted to remain at Dalit Prerana Sthal for the time being, following assurances from authorities that the Chief Secretary would meet to “discuss and settle their demands.”
It was noted that the agitation would persist until their demands were met.
“The Yogi Adityanath government has not succeeded in delivering justice for the farmers. The BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government has not updated the land circle rate since 2017, and landowners have been denied fair and legal compensation and other benefits guaranteed by the Land Acquisition Act, 2013,” it stated.
As per the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad, farmers from 20 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Aligarh and Agra, participated in the march.
Meanwhile, the SKM announced that protests would be conducted across Uttar Pradesh against the “privatization of electricity” on Wednesday.
Due to the march and police inspections, commuters traveling via the Chilla border, DND flyway, Delhi Gate, and Kalindi Kunj experienced severe traffic jams for several hours.
A group of farmers from Punjab, led by Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), has planned a march towards Delhi on December 6. This group has been stationed at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13.
