Jalandhar, Aug 10 (NationPress) A new Vande Bharat Express train will begin service on August 11, linking Amritsar to the revered shrine of Maa Vaishno Devi at Katra. The inauguration was conducted virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Bengaluru, where he waved the green flag online.
The train, designated as 26405/26406, is set to leave Amritsar each day (excluding Tuesdays) at 4:25 p.m., reaching Jalandhar at 5:31 p.m. for a brief stop before arriving at Katra by 10 p.m., completing the journey in merely 5 hours and 35 minutes. This swift and comfortable service offers pilgrims a convenient and time-efficient travel option.
The train's route will encompass key locations including Amritsar, Beas, Jalandhar City, Pathankot Cantt, Jammu Tawi, and Katra. This marks the inaugural Vande Bharat service connecting Amritsar to Katra, supplementing the popular existing Vande Bharat trains operating on the Delhi-Katra and Katra-Srinagar routes.
Ashwani Sharma, the newly appointed working president of BJP in Punjab, who was aboard during the trial run, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for initiating this service. He remarked that this new train will inspire great enthusiasm among devotees traveling to the shrine.
A local resident welcomed the launch, stating that it marks a significant improvement for the elderly in Punjab, who often journey to religious sites for darshan. She pointed out that previous long travel durations and overcrowding in other trains have posed challenges for senior travelers.
With this luxurious Vande Bharat train covering the distance in just 5.5 hours, pilgrims can save substantial travel time while enjoying a comfortable ride.
Currently, there are 144 Vande Bharat trains in operation across India. This initiative was first introduced in 2019 between New Delhi and Varanasi and has since expanded to numerous regions across the country.
In discussions with the media, Ashwani Sharma stated: "The Vande Bharat train from Amritsar to the Maa Vaishno Devi shrine will enhance devotion and enthusiasm among pilgrims. We extend our gratitude to PM Modi and Railway Minister Vaishnaw for providing this facility."
"This train is a significant advantage for Punjab’s elderly pilgrims who often face challenges with lengthy and crowded journeys on other trains. The new service promises to save them time and ensure a comfortable trip," remarked a passenger.
