Reasi, Oct 25: In a significant enhancement to regional connectivity and tourism, the Northern Railway has declared an additional two-minute stop for the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express at Reasi station, commencing on 29 October.

This initiative, which is being implemented on a trial basis for five months, has been widely celebrated by the local community, who view it as a transformative opportunity for the local economy and youth employment.

The semi-high-speed train, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 6 June 2025, currently only stops at Banihal between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar.

Train numbers 26401 (Katra-Srinagar) and 26402 (Srinagar-Katra) will now make a stop at Reasi in both directions, departing Katra at 08:10 AM and arriving in Srinagar by 11:08 AM, thus reducing travel times and improving accessibility.

Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of the Jammu Division, stated, "This move addresses ongoing local demands and increasing passenger traffic from Reasi, which is a vital religious and tourist destination near the Vaishno Devi shrine and the renowned Chenab Bridge."

Residents expressed their gratitude, particularly towards Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, for responding to their requests.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous when speaking to IANS, remarked, "From the depths of my heart, thank you to Minister Vaishnaw. This was essential — tourism will flourish, attracting more visitors to Reasi. Under PM Modi's visionary leadership, we've witnessed infrastructure development, including bridges, and now the much-anticipated stop of this train. It will alleviate unemployment and empower our youth."

Pankaj Malhotra, another local, reiterated this sentiment, saying, "Reasi previously needed a bridge, and it was constructed. Now, the upcoming Vande Bharat stop from 29 October will attract visitors, boosting business for shops, taxis, and creating job opportunities for everyone."

Business communities have hailed this decision as a "milestone," anticipating an increase in pilgrim traffic to nearby attractions, including the world's highest railway arch.

The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, which showcases engineering wonders like the Chenab Bridge, has already revolutionized the transportation framework of J&K since its partial opening.

Officials will closely monitor ticket sales, with a review scheduled after five months to evaluate its sustainability.

"The Vande Bharat has redefined speed and comfort for travelers in J&K," Singhal added.

Point of View
