Mumbai, Jan 19 (NationPress) The Mumbai Police has apprehended a man identified as Vijay Das as the primary suspect in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, in the Thane West locality of Maharashtra, officials reported in the early hours of Sunday.

This arrest resulted from a coordinated operation carried out by DCP Zone-6 Navnath Dhavale’s team along with the Kasarvadavali police at a labor camp located near the metro construction site behind the TCS Call Center in Hiranandani Estate, Thane West.

During the incident, actor Saif Ali Khan sustained six stab wounds while combating the intruder who had forcibly entered his Bandra residence early Thursday with intentions of robbery.

The assailant fled the scene, prompting the actor's son Ibrahim Ali Khan to rush him to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent a series of surgeries.

Saif Ali Khan, who is reportedly no longer in danger, is currently recovering in the hospital.

The main suspect, Vijay Das, was previously employed at a pub in Mumbai. Following his arrest, police are expected to present him in court later on Sunday for remand, as stated by the Mumbai crime branch.

The Mumbai Police indicated that the accused is known by multiple names, including Bijoy Das and Mohammad Iliyas, according to media reports.

The attacker was captured on CCTV footage at the Satguru Sharan building, where Saif Ali Khan and his family reside.

DCP Zone-9 Dikshit Gedam disclosed that the assailant utilized the staircase to access Saif's 12th-floor apartment.

At the time of the incident, Saif Ali Khan's household staff member Eliyamma Philips, also known as Lima, was present in the house and was the first to notice the intruder. In an attempt to prevent him from escaping, she engaged in a struggle, resulting in injuries to her hand.

Upon hearing Lima's screams, Saif Ali Khan became alarmed and exited his room. During the confrontation, the attacker inflicted approximately six stab wounds on the actor with a sharp knife before fleeing.

In a statement given to the Mumbai Police, Lima described the assailant as a slim, dark-complexioned man in his late thirties, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall.

Nearly six hours post-incident, the accused was seen on CCTV purchasing headphones at a store in Dadar while wearing a blue shirt around 9 a.m. on Thursday. Earlier, he was also spotted at Bandra railway station, where it is believed he boarded a train.

Saif Ali Khan's wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, informed the police that the assailant became 'very aggressive' during the confrontation with Saif and stabbed him multiple times. However, she noted that he did not touch any of the jewelry that was visibly left out.

Saif Ali Khan sustained severe injuries during the altercation at his residence. Medical professionals at Lilavati Hospital reported that the actor arrived with a knife embedded in his spine, and his spinal fluid was leaking.

Admitted with six injuries, which included two significant wounds on his left hand and neck, Saif Ali Khan underwent multiple surgeries and was reported to be 'out of danger.' He was transferred to the intensive care unit for observation.

On Friday, Niraj Uttamani, the chief operating officer of the hospital, informed reporters that Saif had been moved to a private room and was recovering well. "He is completely cheerful. In fact, we are planning a discharge in the next two to three days," he continued.

Doctors have commended Saif Ali Khan's bravery and mentioned that visitor access has been restricted to ensure he receives ample rest.
