Kolkata, Sep 2 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has released a copy of an order from the Calcutta High Court's Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench, which inquired why the West Bengal Police had not registered an FIR concerning his complaint regarding the attack on his convoy in the Khagrabari area of Cooch Behar district on August 5.
Adhikari posted the order, issued by the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench presided over by Justice Aniruddha Roy, on his official X handle on Tuesday.
In the order, the LoP noted that on Monday, Justice Roy interrogated the Inspector General (IG) of North Bengal about the lack of an FIR based on Adhikari’s complaint and questioned why the police were treating the suo motu complaint and Adhikari's complaint as identical.
In his social media statement, the BJP leader asserted that although he identified the West Bengal Minister responsible for North Bengal development, Udayan Guha, as the key orchestrator behind the attack on his convoy, the state government and West Bengal Police attempted to obscure the incident and shield Guha.
“A suo motu FIR was lodged by the police, which notably excluded Udayan Guha’s name. I will ensure the culprits face justice. With the assessment of the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court, the police will now have to clarify why Udayan Guha’s name was omitted,” stated the LoP.
On August 6, the day following the assault on his convoy, Adhikari’s attorney submitted a complaint to the office of Cooch Behar District Police Superintendent Dyutiman Bhattacharya, naming 41 individuals, including Udayan Guha, as responsible for the attack.
Subsequently, Adhikari filed a writ petition at the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court, where a comprehensive hearing took place on Monday.
