New Delhi, June 21 (NationPress) Padma Shri Bharat Bhushan praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday for his role in promoting yoga globally and exemplifying the philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' in fostering the well-being of humanity.
In an engaging conversation with IANS, the yoga master shared insights about the acknowledgment of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) by the United Nations and highlighted PM Modi's relentless efforts to advance yoga.
Here are some highlights from the discussion:
IANS: In your opinion, how has PM Modi advanced the concept of yoga?
Bharat Bhushan: Yoga is an incredible means to tackle the challenges and disparities that humanity faces. This ancient practice has been handed down by Indian sages, ensuring its relevance through the ages. Despite various initiatives over time to promote yoga, it remains significant. Individuals often resort to yoga during personal struggles or pursue it as a spiritual journey under the guidance of their Guru.
Efforts have been made by yogis in India and abroad over the years. It's noteworthy that in the future, people will recognize that India has a Prime Minister who comprehends his role as a leader inspired by Krishna, guided by Chanakya, and blessed by Shiva. He has emphasized that this is his moment to earnestly pursue the principle of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', which signifies that the world is one family, and he has indeed taken steps toward this aim.
The United Nations, the world's largest organization comprising all nations, has introduced a program to promote yoga for every country. This is a remarkable initiative. During the inaugural yoga event at Talkatora Stadium, the slogan was, 'Modi ji ka ye uphaar, yog kare saara sansaar' (This is PM Modi's gift; the whole world is practicing yoga).
It’s ironic how we often neglect to acknowledge contributions appropriately. When someone achieves great milestones or when the country seizes crucial opportunities under their guidance, we should celebrate wholeheartedly. This sends a powerful message to the globe that our nation stands united in supporting ideals and knowledge that benefit all.
Today, the entire world is honoring yoga, thanks to the initiative taken by Prime Minister Modi, who acknowledged that yoga is beneficial for everyone.
IANS: There is a persistent emphasis on transforming PM Modi's vision for yoga into a mass movement and garnering widespread public engagement. What are your thoughts on this?
Bharat Bhushan: Mere publicity isn’t sufficient. The UN's declaration of the International Day of Yoga was a significant achievement. However, we need to escalate our efforts to evolve it into a mass movement.
Our objective is to ensure that IDY serves as a catalyst for integrating yoga into our daily lives. While it conveys an important message, that message becomes impactful only when people actively engage in the celebration.
In our nation, all universities, colleges, schools, and even courts remain closed in June. It became apparent that we needed to make a concerted effort to connect with people during this timeframe.
Therefore, Mokshayatan Yog Sansthan, in collaboration with the Ministry of AYUSH and the Government of India, decided to commence the program a month prior to June 21. This way, we wouldn’t need to make a separate effort specifically for that date.
We are celebrating our 11th IDY. The Prime Minister had a significant vision in mind, and after a decade of celebration—which is no small achievement—we should honor this milestone.
To do this, we have identified key focus points, including reducing the number of institutions and yoga centers, ensuring that yoga practices are incorporated in every park, and involving every segment of the government in this initiative.
The solution to all global issues lies within yoga. Nowadays, people are beginning to understand it well.
IANS: You have also practiced yoga alongside the Prime Minister. What has that experience been like?
Bharat Bhushan: The entire world is now practicing yoga with PM Modi. Not only did we engage in yoga together, but we also partook in yogic contemplation. When I first met him after he became Prime Minister, he expressed his aspiration to bring yoga to every corner of the globe. I realized his intention was to elevate India by spreading yoga worldwide.
Our new generation is preparing to advance 'Bharat Yog'. Much has been accomplished over the past ten years, and this year, the 11th IDY will focus on unifying these efforts to further the concept of yoga and promote healthy living.
IANS: Who do you draw inspiration from in yoga?
Bharat Bhushan: Those who practice yoga are a source of inspiration. Maharishi Patanjali and Lord Krishna both conveyed the essence of yoga. Prior to them, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati also imparted this wisdom.
Ultimately, the inspiration to advocate for yoga comes from its practitioners, all the yoga masters, Maharishis, and Lord Shiva. Similarly, many will acknowledge that Narendra Modi has also emerged as an inspiration in promoting yoga.
