New Delhi, June 12 (NationPress) The adoption of June 21 as the International Day of Yoga by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, inspired by the insightful call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, heralded the start of a worldwide wellness initiative grounded in India's ancient wisdom, remarked Union Minister of State for Ayush, Prataprao Jadhav, on Thursday.

During a press conference for the upcoming 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY), Jadhav emphasized how IDY has evolved into a global phenomenon.

“From the record-breaking inaugural event in the national capital to celebrations in locations like Mysuru, New York, and Srinagar, Yoga has united individuals worldwide in their quest for health and tranquility,” he stated.

The press conference took place at the National Media Centre, officially kicking off the IDY 2025 festivities.

This year's national event will be spearheaded by PM Modi on June 21 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Highlighting the importance of this year's celebration, the Minister noted that the 11th edition of IDY is more than just an event; it is a call to broaden Yoga's influence throughout society.

“The theme for this year, ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’, aligns with the global health objectives promoted during India’s G20 Presidency and embodies the Indian ethos of ‘Sarve Santu Niramaya’—which translates to ‘May all be free from disease’,” the Union Minister explained.

The grand gathering in Visakhapatnam will witness PM Modi leading a common yoga protocol session with over 500,000 participants.

Simultaneously, ‘Yoga Sangam’ sessions are planned at more than 100,000 locations nationwide, marking one of the largest synchronized yoga demonstrations ever.

He also commended the Andhra Pradesh government and its Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, for initiating the ‘YogaAndhra’ campaign.

This state-level initiative aims to cultivate a community of 1 million regular yoga practitioners.

In the lead-up to the main event, the Ministry has scheduled ten signature events over a span of 100 days.

These initiatives are designed to engage individuals from all backgrounds and promote yoga as a holistic lifestyle.

Some of these events include ‘Yoga Samavesh’ for inclusivity and ‘Yoga Bandhan’ to foster international collaboration.
