Agartala, Jan 3 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, stated on Saturday that yoga embodies India's cultural strength and is crucial for fostering discipline, physical fitness, and mental resilience among the youth. He emphasized the state government's dedication to advancing sports and yoga.
While inaugurating the Yoga Asana competition (Under-17 Boys) as part of the 69th National School Games 2025-26 at the Netaji Subhash Regional Coaching Centre (NSRCC), Saha remarked that the congregation of young talents from various parts of the nation centered around the ancient practice of yoga signifies not just a competition but a grand tribute to India’s cultural legacy, physical prowess, and mental fortitude.
He referred to the event as a moment of pride for Tripura, asserting that it would motivate the upcoming generation to embrace values of discipline, self-restraint, and excellence.
Moreover, he stated that this national-level sports event would be celebrated as a significant milestone in the state's sports history. The competition is being co-hosted by the Tripura School Sports Board, the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, and the School Games Federation of India (SGFI).
The Chief Minister conveyed his best wishes to the athletes, coaches, and officials from different states and expressed gratitude to the SGFI for allowing Tripura to organize the U-17 Boys Yoga Asana event within the National School Games.
He highlighted that national sports competitions not only promote athletic excellence but also play a vital role in familiarizing the younger generation with India’s rich cultural traditions.
“Yoga is a bridge that connects the body, mind, and spirit. It promotes physical health while building mental strength. Celebrated globally on June 21 as International Yoga Day, yoga gained international recognition following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative at the United Nations in 2014. Sharing yoga with the world is India's priceless offering,” Saha remarked.
He mentioned that approximately 350 athletes from various states are competing in this event and expressed optimism that these young talents would achieve great success for both the country and the state on national and international stages in the future.
Focusing on the significance of sports in comprehensive development, the Chief Minister stated that athletics instills values of discipline, perseverance, responsibility, and patriotism among the youth.
He further mentioned that the state government has implemented numerous initiatives to promote sports and yoga, with young athletes from Tripura already making significant achievements in various competitions.
Present at the event were Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Sports Secretary Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, Director of Sports L. Darlong, Joint Director Paimang Mog, Olympian and Padma Shri awardee Dipa Karmakar, along with other officials.
