CM Yogi hails Ayodhya's Modi-era transformation, inaugurates ₹1,662 crore projects in Gorakhpur
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday, 1 November 2026, credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with reviving Ayodhya's ancient grandeur through large-scale modern development, saying the temple city's tourism surge is generating employment and prosperity for local residents. The Chief Minister made the remarks in a post on social media platform X, even as he prepared to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for 84 development projects across Gorakhpur worth a combined investment of over ₹1,662 crore.
Ayodhya's Transformation: What Changed After 2017
Chief Minister Adityanath, in his post on X, drew a sharp contrast between Ayodhya's condition before and after 2017. 'Ayodhya is the birthplace of civilization, the lifeblood of culture, and the eternal flame of faith. However, before 2017, this sacred city was compelled to endure neglect, disorder, and the corrosive effects of appeasement politics. Pilgrims faced difficulties in their journeys, civic infrastructure was in poor condition, and opportunities for local families remained limited,' he wrote.
He said the situation began reversing under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, with a raft of infrastructure projects reshaping the city. Key among these are the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, Ram Path, Dharam Path, an international airport, and a modern railway station — each designed, according to Yogi, to ease pilgrim access and reinforce Ayodhya's identity as Ram Nagari.
Tourism, Trade and Employment: The Ripple Effect
The Chief Minister argued that Ayodhya's infrastructure overhaul is producing tangible economic dividends. 'Growing tourism is boosting commerce, new opportunities are connecting young people with employment, and local families are nurturing fresh aspirations of prosperity,' he said in the post.
Adityanath framed Ayodhya as a centrepiece of the broader 'Viksit Bharat, Viksit Uttar Pradesh' vision — an ideological and developmental framework linking religious heritage with economic aspiration. Notably, Ayodhya's rise as a pilgrimage and tourism hub has also attracted significant private investment in hospitality and retail since the temple's consecration.
Gorakhpur Projects: 84 Initiatives Worth ₹1,662 Crore
Later on Sunday, Chief Minister Adityanath was set to inaugurate a rail overbridge at Railway Crossing No. 147-B on the Chauri Chaura–Bhopa Bazar–Mundera Bazar–Sonbarsa road in Gorakhpur's Chauri Chaura Assembly constituency, at a cost of more than ₹287 crore.
He also announced that the first phase of the Godhoiya Nala project, costing over ₹495 crore, would be dedicated to the public on the same day. Foundation stones would additionally be laid for the second phase of the Godhoiya Nala project, the Gorakhpur Sewerage Scheme Zone A-3, and a proposed service road, together representing an investment of more than ₹880 crore.
Political Context and Significance
The remarks and project launches come as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continues to position Ayodhya's development as a flagship achievement of both the Modi government at the Centre and the Yogi administration in Uttar Pradesh. This is the latest in a series of public-facing infrastructure pushes the Chief Minister has undertaken in his home constituency of Gorakhpur, reinforcing the dual narrative of cultural restoration and economic development ahead of future electoral cycles.
Adityanath said Ayodhya, which once 'awaited development,' is now 'scripting a new chapter of progress while preserving its rich heritage' — a formulation that reflects the BJP's broader 'heritage plus development' political messaging.
