Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday, 24 August inaugurated 346 development projects worth ₹879 crore spanning the Raebareli, Bachhrawan, and Harchandpur constituencies. The event was held at the Firoz Gandhi Degree College ground in Raebareli, with funds earmarked by the state government.

Key Announcements at the Event

Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi noted that Raksha Bandhan celebrations have been initiated for mid-day meal cooks, and a new welfare scheme for mothers is set to be rolled out on 26 August. He framed the launches as part of a broader transformation of a region he said had long suffered neglect.

'Raebareli's name is now being taken with pride across the country. For the first time, the rollout of a Vande Bharat train shed also took place here in May 2026,' he said.

Claims on Welfare and Development

The Chief Minister stated that approximately 16 crore people in Uttar Pradesh are currently receiving free ration under state schemes, and that 10 crore residents have health insurance coverage of ₹5 lakh. He also claimed that employment opportunities have expanded across Raebareli and other districts of the state.

CM Yogi further asserted that his government had built more houses and toilets in nine years than previous administrations had managed in 50 years — a claim that opposition parties have contested in the past.

Political Barbs at Congress and SP

The Chief Minister directed sharp criticism at the Indian National Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP), alleging that their governments had allowed welfare resources — including mid-day meals meant for schoolchildren — to be misappropriated. He alleged that 'SP goons would consume the mid-day meals meant for children, leaving nothing for them.'

On the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, CM Yogi alleged that both Congress and SP were 'distressed' at its construction, and accused their alliance of 'repeatedly attempting to undermine India's interest as well as its identity.' He also highlighted the operationalisation of AIIMS Raebareli as a marker of regional progress, noting that while Congress established one AIIMS and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee added seven, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken the total to 23.

The Broader Context

Raebareli has historically been a Congress stronghold and was long represented by members of the Gandhi family. CM Yogi's visit and the scale of the project launches signal the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) sustained push to consolidate ground in the constituency ahead of future electoral cycles. This is consistent with the BJP's pattern of high-profile infrastructure rollouts in Opposition-leaning regions across Uttar Pradesh since 2017.
