New Delhi, Jan 12 (NationPress) The youth of India are evolving from being mere observers to becoming key architects of the nation’s political, economic, and social evolution, stated Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, on Monday, emphasizing their vital role in constructing a developed India.

While addressing the National Conclave on “Viksit Bharat ka Sankalp aur Yuva” during National Youth Day, hosted by Hansraj College at Vigyan Bhawan, Sonowal remarked that the confidence, creativity, and ambition of young Indians signify a significant transformation in the nation's development.

In a tribute to Swami Vivekananda, Sonowal noted that the legendary thinker’s philosophies are still profoundly relevant today.

Referencing Vivekananda’s call to “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached,” the minister stated that this message continues to motivate young Indians to strive for excellence with intent.

Emphasizing India’s demographic advantage, Sonowal mentioned that the youth constitute the largest segment of the population and symbolize the nation’s greatest strength.

“The strength of India’s youth translates into the strength of the nation itself. Empowering young individuals can redirect the future of India,” he asserted.

He noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, youth empowerment has shifted from mere words to actionable policy.

“Since 2014, the youth have been positioned at the forefront of governance and nation-building. Their aspirations, skills, and ideas are shaping national priorities,” Sonowal remarked.

Reflecting on the clear changes over the last decade, the minister stated that a new era has emerged where young Indians are steering political engagement, economic expansion, and India’s global influence.

He pointed out that flagship initiatives like Skill India and the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana are training millions of youth to become job creators, while Startup India has fostered a robust culture of entrepreneurship and innovation.

Sonowal also highlighted the National Education Policy for making education more practical and future-ready, alongside initiatives like Khelo India and Digital India that are broadening opportunities.

Earlier, the minister engaged with students from Assam participating in the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2026, describing them as confident individuals reflective of India’s emerging leadership.

“The journey towards Viksit Bharat is a national mission, and its success hinges on the energy, ideas, and leadership of our youth,” he concluded.
