Guwahati, Sep 25 (NationPress) With increasing public concern surrounding the investigation into the untimely death of Assam's musical legend Zubeen Garg, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged patience on Thursday, promising that justice would prevail.
In a statement to the media, Sarma emphasized that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) responsible for the case needs adequate time to progress.
“Should the SIT struggle to achieve results, and if the people of Assam remain unhappy, we will advocate for the case to be passed to the CBI,” he noted.
The Chief Minister also addressed rumors concerning the late artist’s digital and personal accounts.
He clarified that Garg’s spouse, Garima Garg, has not approached the government for control over his social media accounts or other possessions.
“If these accounts are under the control of Siddharth Sharma and a transfer to his wife was contemplated, I must clarify that Garima Garg has not made such a request. If the family needs assistance, she will communicate directly with the authorities, as the Commissioner of Police is in regular contact with her. Currently, the family’s sole request is for justice,” Sarma added.
The state government has established a SIT to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Sarma, who led a high-level review meeting with the Director General of Police, senior CID officials, and the Chief Secretary on Wednesday, announced that the SIT would consist of some of the finest officers from the Assam Police, operating independently with utmost professional integrity.
He reassured the people of Assam that “no effort will be spared” in the investigation.
The SIT will be led by Special DGP (CID) M.P. Gupta, with Rosie Kalita, SSP (CM Vigilance), designated as the Chief Investigating Officer.
Numerous senior officials, including Additional SPs, Deputy SPs, Inspectors, and Sub-Inspectors from CID and various districts, have been included as Additional and Assistant Investigating Officers.
All personnel assigned to the SIT will remain with the team until the investigation is finalized. According to officials, the SIT is expected to operate within strict timelines and guarantee transparency at each phase of the inquiry.
