In a written response to the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, disclosed that “a total of 31,466 hospitals have been empanelled under the scheme nationwide, of which 14,194 are private hospitals” as of June.

The AB PM-JAY scheme offers health coverage of Rs. 5 lakh per family annually for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization, targeting approximately 55 crore beneficiaries. This is tailored for 12.37 crore families representing the economically disadvantaged bottom 40 percent of India’s population.

States are empowered to implement the scheme using any of these models and can transition between them as necessary.

The “National Health Authority has established guidelines under AB-PMJAY to ensure that hospitals receive payment for claims within 15 days for intra-state claims and within 30 days for portability claims,” the Minister stated.
