Georgetown, July 26 (NationPress) The Indian High Commission in Guyana convened a roundtable discussion titled 'India-CARICOM Cooperation in Resource Mapping, Climate Change and Agricultural Research & Development', reaffirming India's dedication to strengthening ties with Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member nations in the fields of science and technology.
The event was organized by the Indian High Commission in partnership with the CARICOM Secretariat at the Pegasus Corporate Centre in Georgetown. A delegation from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), currently in Guyana, also participated in the dialogue.
During the discussion, Indian Ambassador to CARICOM, Amit Telang, opened the session by emphasizing India's eagerness to broaden and deepen collaboration with Caribbean partners in science and technology.
He highlighted the significance of cooperation, collaboration, and coexistence as shared principles between India and CARICOM for the benefit of our people and the broader Global South, as noted by the Indian High Commission in Guyana on X.
The roundtable was led by Wendell Samuel, Assistant Secretary General for Economic Integration, Innovation and Development at the CARICOM Secretariat. Attendees included representatives from various member states and prominent government organizations from Guyana.
During the program, Srinivasa Rao Goru, a scientist from ISRO, delivered an in-depth presentation on the use of space technology and remote sensing across multiple sectors, including agriculture, fisheries, and disaster management.
Senior representatives from the Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) shared insights about their laboratory network and expertise in areas such as climate adaptation, aviation, and other sustainable technologies.
They offered support in collaboration and capacity building to partner nations within CARICOM.
The Indian High Commission stated that this event was a significant step in executing various outcomes from the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit held in Georgetown, Guyana, in November 2024, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged assistance to CARICOM nations in several sectors, including innovation, technology, and trade.
