New Delhi, Oct 11 (NationPress) Prominent financial and intelligence organizations, along with border enforcement agencies, convened to enhance India’s anti-smuggling initiatives, as reported by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on Saturday.
The discussions occurred during the second assembly of the National Anti-Smuggling Coordination Centre (S-CORD) at the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) headquarters, according to a post by the CBIC on X.
Representatives from 21 varied agencies participated in this meeting, which included border enforcement units such as SSB, ITBP, BSF, AR, CISF, CRPF, and the Indian Coast Guard. Key financial and intelligence bodies such as ED, CEIB, FIU, CBI, IB, and the Cabinet Secretariat also attended, alongside representatives from CBDT, DPIIT, ASI, WCCB, CDSCO, Indian Railways, and the D&ISA Division of MEA.
The S-CORD was established following the directives of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, with its inaugural meeting taking place in April 2019.
S-CORD serves as a distinctive platform that unites a wide range of stakeholders under one roof to bolster India’s anti-smuggling measures.
This initiative facilitates closer scrutiny of changing smuggling patterns, improved real-time data sharing, coordinated operational responses, and a unified strategy to safeguard India’s economic and border security, as stated in the CBIC post.
Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged state and union territory anti-narcotics task forces (ANTFs), alongside central agencies, to intensify measures against drug trafficking.
HM Shah also inaugurated the Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) Online Drug Disposal Campaign, which successfully destroyed 1.37 lakh kg of narcotics valued at Rs 4,800 crore across 11 locations nationwide.
While addressing ANTF leaders, HM Shah emphasized that the PM Modi government is implementing a three-pronged strategy: a relentless effort to disrupt supply chains, a strategic initiative to diminish demand, and a compassionate approach to harm reduction.
He highlighted the need to extend the campaign beyond targeting minor dealers to dismantling cartels at entry points, interstate distribution, and local sales networks.
