New Delhi, May 30 (NationPress) The Delhi High Court, in a temporary ruling issued on Friday, instructed multiple online platforms to eliminate counterfeit and AI-manipulated content that exploits the name, image, and personal rights of Sadhguru, the esteemed spiritual leader and founder of the Isha Foundation.
Sadhguru initiated legal action in the Delhi High Court to protect his personal rights after numerous fraudulent AI-generated audios, videos, and images surfaced on social media, aiming to market products and attract subscribers by leveraging his established reputation.
His lawyer argued that Sadhguru's revered status was being grossly exploited by unscrupulous websites through Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. Furthermore, products were being marketed under his name, featuring his likeness, which the attorney described as a blatant act of fraud.
During the proceedings, Google's representative stated that the platform acts upon receiving reports from affected individuals regarding the URLs of such fraudulent sites.
"You can report the URL to me... if I determine that it is indeed valid, I will remove it. However, if I have any uncertainties, I will notify him, and he may return to court for clarification," Google's counsel stated.
Following the arguments presented on behalf of Sadhguru, a bench led by Justice Saurabh Banerjee issued a temporary injunction mandating the removal of content that misuses Sadhguru's name, image, and personal rights from online platforms.
A detailed copy of the ruling is yet to be made available on the Delhi High Court's website.
In response to this ruling, the Isha Foundation shared on X: "These scams involve fraudulent AI-generated videos, altered images depicting fictitious incidents, like Sadhguru's arrest, and misleading advertisements promoting financial investments. The Isha Foundation has been actively working to eradicate such deceptive content and protect individuals from falling victim to these scams."
