The deal, which includes over 4.25 lakh CQB carbines and essential accessories, amounts to Rs 2,770 crore and benefits both the Indian Army and the Indian Navy. This contract was awarded to Bharat Forge Ltd. and PLR Systems Pvt Ltd.
The CQB carbine is designed to offer a significant advantage in close combat with its compact structure and rapid firing capabilities, ensuring swift and decisive engagement in tight spaces.
The Defence Ministry emphasized, "This agreement showcases the collaboration between the government and private sector, further propelling the 'Make in India' initiative."
This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the economy, creating job opportunities, and empowering local defense industries by fostering Indian MSMEs through the manufacturing of components and supply of raw materials.
Additionally, a contract for the procurement and integration of 48 Heavy Weight Torpedoes along with related equipment for the Kalvari Class Submarines (P-75) of the Indian Navy was signed with WASS Submarine Systems S.R.L. from Italy, costing approximately Rs 1,896 crore.
This acquisition is set to bolster the combat effectiveness of the six Kalvari Class submarines, with deliveries scheduled to begin in April 2028 and complete by early 2030, as per the ministry's statement.
The torpedoes feature advanced operational capabilities and cutting-edge technology.
The Defence Ministry remarked, "This achievement represents the culmination of a remarkable and persistent effort to equip Indian soldiers with world-class lethality, replacing outdated systems with state-of-the-art indigenous technology under the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision."
The contracts were finalized in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Defence has secured capital contracts worth Rs 1,82,492 crore aimed at modernizing the Armed Forces during the financial year 2025-26.
