Bengaluru, March 11 (NationPress) As sleep-related issues rise in India, approximately 52 percent of individuals are utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered voice assistants to establish their sleep routines, according to a recent report released on Tuesday.

The research, conducted by YouGov and Amazon Alexa, comes just before World Sleep Day on March 14, and highlights the sleep habits of 1,000 participants across 10 cities in India. The findings indicate that half of the participants harness voice assistants for their sleep routines, with a higher usage noted among individuals aged 35-45 compared to those aged 25-34.

Interestingly, 53 percent of respondents reported sleep-related challenges when they did not adhere to a regular bedtime schedule. However, maintaining a consistent sleep pattern resulted in a significant improvement for about 54 percent of adults, as stated in the study.

"Establishing sleep routines is becoming increasingly popular, and it is remarkable that modern technologies, particularly voice assistants like Alexa, are proving to be effective tools for aiding individuals in sticking to their bedtime practices. Tailored voice AI interactions are emerging as viable substitutes for handheld devices before sleep," stated Teena Sidana, Country Manager, Alexa India.

"Whether it's playing meditation tracks, soothing sounds, audiobooks, or music, setting alarms and reminders, or managing smart devices to enhance the sleep environment, users are creatively integrating Alexa into their nightly rituals. Alexa users can effortlessly configure their bedtime routines via the Alexa app, tailoring it to their unique preferences and requirements," Sidana elaborated.

The research further revealed that families with couples and children are also utilizing voice assistants for establishing sleep routines. Approximately 45 percent of individuals use voice assistants in smart devices for enjoying music, podcasts, meditation playlists, ambient sounds, films, and audiobooks.

Meanwhile, 23 percent rely on voice assistants for setting alarms and reminders, while 22 percent employ them to control smart home devices such as bedroom or nursery lights, automated curtains, smart air conditioners, and more.

The research also indicated that over 50 percent of participants expressed a desire to include wellness activities in their future bedtime routines.

Such activities include meditation, journaling, light exercises like walking, and skincare regimens. Couples, both with and without children, have shown increased interest (32 percent) in incorporating meditation and journaling into their routines.
