New Delhi, May 14 (NationPress) The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) is preparing to host the 'Inclusive India Summit' in honor of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) on May 15, as announced on Wednesday.
This summit aims to not only highlight inclusivity but also make strides toward ensuring that the digital landscape is accessible for everyone.
GAAD is focused on promoting awareness about digital access and inclusion for individuals with disabilities worldwide. This day is celebrated each year on the third Thursday of May.
At the summit, 'Mission Accessibility' will unveil its annual Accessibility Report Card, showcasing the current accessibility status across the nation. In addition, an AI-powered chatbot will be introduced to provide support with departmental schemes.
This event is being organized in collaboration with the SBI Foundation and the National Association for the Blind (NAB), New Delhi, along with partnerships from the Association of People with Disability (APD) and Mission Accessibility (Dhananjay Sanjogta Foundation), as stated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The ministry stressed, 'Our goal is to foster inclusive development and digital accessibility throughout the country, while enhancing cooperation among the government, industry, academia, civil society, and the Divyang community to guarantee equal opportunities and environments accessible for persons with disabilities.'
Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary of DEPwD, will be the Chief Guest for the event. A notable feature will be a panel discussion focused on digital accessibility, where industry experts will explore actionable steps to enhance inclusivity and accessibility in technology and products for individuals with disabilities.
During this occasion, DEPwD will formalize partnerships by signing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with various organizations, including the I for Humanity Foundation, Nipman Foundation, Young Leaders for Active Citizenship (YLAC), and RampMyCity Foundation.
The summit will also introduce a draft curriculum designed to incorporate digital accessibility guidelines into computer science and design courses. This curriculum has been created through a national consultative process led by APD, according to the ministry.
