New Delhi, Oct 16 (NationPress) India and Brazil have officially committed to enhancing their bilateral trade and investment relations across various sectors, including energy, agriculture, and technology. This agreement was reached during a meeting between Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Geraldo Alckmin, Brazil’s Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services.

Goyal stated, “We reviewed the comprehensive landscape of our bilateral trade relationship while reaffirming our mutual dedication to bolstering cooperation and investment in diverse sectors, such as energy, healthcare, agriculture, and technology.”

He added that the two nations, on World Food Day, were celebrating the India-Brazil partnership and the vital role of their farmers in strengthening global food security.

This meeting follows recent high-level talks aimed at boosting trade and investment between the two nations.

Alckmin’s visit to India, which began on Wednesday, is set to last two days and includes a delegation of Cabinet Ministers, senior officials, and business leaders.

Upon his arrival, he met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi, with Brazilian Defence Minister Jose Mucio Monteiro Filho also present.

India and Brazil enjoy a strategic partnership, and the leaders discussed the full range of their multifaceted relations in the defence sector.

They explored areas of mutual interest, including military-to-military cooperation and joint training exercises.

The Ministry of Defence stated, “The leaders reviewed the status of ongoing defence initiatives and pinpointed priority areas for collaboration, including the co-development and co-production of defence equipment.”

During his stay, Alckmin is anticipated to meet Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to discuss various mutual interests. He is also expected to participate in the India-Brazil Business Forum and visit the All India Institute of Ayurveda.

“Brazil stands as India’s largest trading partner in South America. During Prime Minister Modi's recent state visit to Brazil, the leaders resolved to establish a Ministerial-level Review Mechanism aimed at enhancing our trade and investment, setting a bilateral trade target of $20 billion over the next five years,” a statement from the MEA read.

“Alckmin’s visit is designed to review bilateral trade and investment, identify new priority sectors, develop a roadmap for achieving the trade target, and further strengthen our multifaceted Strategic Partnership,” it concluded.
