New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) The Pariksha Pe Charcha initiative serves as a significant source of motivation for children, fostering a sense of importance and inclusion, stated Shonali Sabherwal, a renowned nutritionist, on Monday.

Sabherwal was among 12 experts selected from various domains to engage with children during the eighth edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha – which saw participation from 36 students from every state and union territory.

“The Prime Minister’s message that you can conquer all challenges and his motto of being a warrior, not a worrier, instills a sense of value and belonging in children. They perceive that the PM is reaching out to them, and this encourages them to strive harder,” Sabherwal conveyed to IANS.

Pariksha Pe Charcha emphasized on managing stress, time management, and addressing students' concerns.

She advised the children against staying awake at night, suggesting they study during daytime hours. The esteemed gut health expert also shared advice on “how to maintain a healthy gut, which can enhance brain health.”

Amid escalating stress levels associated with exams and the pressure to achieve high scores, Sabherwal recommended minimizing the consumption of sugary drinks, which can enhance brain functions and support better performance.

“Currently, sugar consumption has surged. This can lead to brain imbalances,” and negatively impact students' performance, she mentioned.

Research indicates that excessive glucose intake is linked to memory and cognitive issues.

Additionally, she encouraged children and parents to incorporate millets such as jowar, bajra, and ragi into their meals.

“Children today often consume more takeout than home-cooked meals. Their diets, which predominantly consist of pizza, burgers, and chocolates, significantly increase sugar levels in their bodies,” Sabherwal explained to IANS.

“High consumption of these foods can be harmful not only to physical health but also to mental well-being. Elevated sugar levels can adversely affect mood and lead to brain imbalances,” she added.

The health expert recommended foods with natural sugars, like sweet potatoes, beetroot, and carrots. These foods with natural sugars can “maintain a favorable mental state.”
