Piyush Goyal Advocates Complete Integration of Industry with Government Digital Platforms to Enhance Logistics Sector

New Delhi, Dec 20 (NationPress) Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Friday advocated for a comprehensive integration of industry participants onto government digital platforms to enhance the logistics sector.

During his speech at the ULIP Logistics Hackathon 2.0 Awards Ceremony, the minister encouraged attendees to prioritize sustainability and incorporate eco-friendly practices into India’s logistics framework.

"We must embrace technologies such as electric mobility, biofuels, and multimodal transport solutions to reduce our overall carbon footprint and embed sustainability into our core strategy," the minister emphasized.

In discussing skill development within the logistics sector, he called for partnerships with educational institutions to cultivate a future-ready workforce.

The minister noted the importance of leveraging collaboration between the government, private sector, and academia to advance skill development in logistics.

He pointed out that there is a pressing need for innovation in infrastructure development, emphasizing the requirement for improved road construction techniques and expedited contract bidding processes.

By utilizing Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics, we can ensure that there are no time or cost overruns, he stated.

The Minister also suggested hosting more hackathons with fresh problem statements every three months.

Piyush Goyal remarked that hackathons represent a new governance model aimed at addressing national issues.

This approach is inclusive and engages young innovators, startups, and creative minds, embodying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Prayas’, he noted.

He further highlighted that the government is focused on Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business, which are crucial for maintaining the country’s competitive edge.

The ULIP Logistics Hackathon 2.0 was officially launched on September 24, 2024, in collaboration with NITI Aayog and Start-up India, aiming to provide a national platform for startups, enterprises, and logistics service providers to tackle pressing challenges in the logistics industry.

This year, the hackathon saw a significant increase, with over 4,751 registrations. After a detailed evaluation, 72 participants were shortlisted to create prototypes.

Out of these, 25 finalists showcased their innovative solutions during the finale event on December 20.

The ULIP Logistics Hackathon 2.0 featured a remarkable range of innovative solutions aimed at addressing critical logistics challenges.

Among the proposals were ideas for accident hotspot mapping, utilizing geospatial data and real-time analytics to identify and alleviate accident-prone areas, enhancing road safety and informing better infrastructure decisions.

Many solutions concentrated on sustainable supply chain management, focusing on minimizing carbon footprints through efficient load consolidation, optimal routing, and real-time tracking to promote greener logistics practices.

Participants also examined cargo insurance and risk management, presenting concepts that integrated advanced risk assessment tools with seamless, cost-effective insurance solutions tailored to logistics demands.

Enhancing operational efficiency was another key area of focus, with solutions aimed at improving route optimization, cargo space utilization, and transit time reductions through predictive analytics and data-driven decision-making.

The hackathon offered a substantial cash prize pool of Rs 20 lakh to recognize and reward innovation and creativity in logistics solutions. The prize distribution is designed to foster excellence and motivate participants to develop impactful and transformative ideas.
